셀의 재질4 (석영)

큐벳의 재질 중 범용적으로 사용하는 석영.

누구는 Quartz라고도 하고 누구는 Silica 라고도 하고.

또 어떤 회사는 석영유리라고도 하고, 그래서 이번에 잠깐 확인해 본다.

이러한 용어들은 재질의 투명/불투명 등급을 구분하기위해 사용되었다고 한다. 순수 수정으로 부터 생산된 투명 제품은 Quartz glass, "모래"등 약간 저품질로 부터 생산된 불투명 제품은 Sillica glass 라하였다고 한다. 그러나 현재는 만드는 공정이 고순도의 제품들을 생산할 수 있어서 모래도 부터도 투명 제품을 만들 수 있으며, 이때 만들어진 투명 재질의 실리카 제품을  Fused Quartz 라고 한다.

Quartz Glass, Silica Glass, Fused Silica, Fused Quartz

순수한 규산(SiO2)로 이루어진 유리로 불순물이 수백ppm 이하인 고순도의 규산을 고온(약 2,000℃ 이상)에서 용융하여 제조한 유리. 일반적으로 천연 광물 형태로 존재하는 순수한 규산 광물을 석영(quartz)이라 하고, 이들 중 투명한 결정을 수정이라고 하는데 인위적으로 제조하고 있는 석영유리와 구분됨.
- Fused Quartz는 석영유리 중 순도가 아주 좋은 천연석영(quartz)을 용융하여 유리로 만든 것이며,

- Fused Silica는 정제공정을 통하여 불순물을 제거한 규사를 용융시켜 제조한 것을 말함.

- 또한 석영유리 (synthesized fused silica)는 사염화규소(SiCl4) 등과 같은 규소를 함유한 기체 혹은 액체상태의 화합물을 고온으로 용해하여 만든 것을 말한다.

Fused Silica is the glassy form of quartz and is thus isotropic. It is tough and hard and has a very low expansion. Normal varieties contain water that gives strong absorption in the IR. Water-free varieties are available.

Vitreous silica is the generic term used to describe all types of silica glass, with producers referring to the material as either Fused Quartz or as Fused Silica. Originally, those terms were used to distinguish between transparent and opaque grades of the material. Fused Quartz products were those produced from quartz crystal into transparent ware, and Fused Silica described products manufactured from sand into opaque ware.

Today, however, advances in raw material beneficiation permit transparent fusions from sand as well as from crystal. Consequently, if naturally occurring crystalline silica (sand or rock) is melted, the material is simply called Fused Quartz.
